Events big and small are always unique in their stories and significance. We have been fortunate enough to design for The Skin Cancer Foundation for several years now and have watched their impact grow as they raise money for education campaigns, community programs, and research initiatives that change lives daily. The 2019 Champions For Change Gala was extra special because it was also a celebration of the organization’s 40th anniversary, often referred to as the ruby anniversary. To play off of this milestone, we focused on bringing a variety of rich shades of red with shimmering details to match the event’s luxurious feel set at the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York City.
The concept for this invitation was inspired by the facets of a ruby, with geometric triangular color blocking in dark red tones offset with shiny foil. We wanted to bring lots of dimension to the suite, so we chose to construct the invitation to open vertically for a dramatic effect. The text inside was designed to fit within and along the faceted shapes for a modern layout. These details were then adorned with red foil confetti dots which we have carried through each year’s invitation as a cohesive element in The Champions For Change Gala pieces. These design elements were utilized in many ways, from the entrance banners to the tickets to the digital graphics that formatted the night’s presentations.
At the event, guests walked onto the red carpet for photos before entering the stunning ballroom. The room was decorated with ornate gold-painted woodwork, glamorous chandeliers, and crystal centerpieces with red florals. The star-studded line up of donors and guests sat around large tables that lined up toward the stage, where speakers presented about the future of The Skin Cancer Foundation and the amazing people that made this work possible. We were honored to be a part of this momentous occasion that left guests with an experience as rich as the rubies themselves.
